i use linux

🐧

The Beginning

It all started with my very old laptop, it was Asus X555BP - I couldn't even type smoothly in Microsoft Word at that time and the battery life was horrible. A friend on Facebook suggested me to use Linux, he recommending Manjaro Linux.

First Linux Experience

My first Linux experience was in high school and it was quite great. I used Manjaro, an Arch-based Linux distribution. I loved how easy it was to install applications, as lots of my important apps from Windows were available in the Arch User Repository (AUR). Manjaro Neofetch

Here are some of the apps I frequently used:

  • Visual Studio Code
  • Chrome
  • Discord
  • Steam
  • OBS Studio
  • Microsoft Word (i had to switch to WPS Office, even though its not FLOSS)

All of these were easily installable through sudo pacman, yay or the Discover app.

Moving to Arch

After using Manjaro for 1 year, I moved to Arch Linux (I use Arch btw). Arch Linux was great, I loved the bleeding edge, although sometimes I hated it because occasionally it would break my OS.

Some of my favorite aspects of Arch:

  • Rolling release model
  • Extensive documentation
  • Large package repository
  • Complete control over the system

Arch Neofetch i love KDE global menu fr

I got into University

When I was in my second semester of college, I felt that I no longer had much time to deal with some issues that occasionally arose in Linux, as I was worried it would interfere with my studies. Since I got a new, better laptop that came with Windows OEM pre-installed, I decided to leave Linux behind.

Returning to Linux

As I'm writing this, I've been using Fedora for a month now (i think). I'm using GNOME this time, because i hate the Windows-style UI that KDE uses. (i know it's customizable, but i hate inconsistent theme)

I'll post my setup later.
